Privacy Policy
How L-Chemy collects, uses and protects your personal information.
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains, in plain English, what personal information we collect when you contact us or use our Student Portal, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We teach students all over the world, and we apply this policy to everyone, wherever you are.
1. Who we are
L-Chemy provides online chemistry tuition through the website www.lchemytutoring.com, including a private Student Portal where current students can see their own lesson records and notes. For anything relating to your privacy or your personal information, you can contact us at LchemyTutoring@outlook.com. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to L-Chemy, who are the data controller for the information described below.
L-Chemy is operated by Lchemy FZE LLC, a Free Zone Establishment registered at Business Centre, Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (Licence No. 4430504.01, Formation No. 4430504).
2. The information we collect
When you contact us through our enquiry form, we collect:
- your name and email address;
- optionally, your phone number, the study level (for example GCSE or A-Level), your exam board and your target grade;
- the message you write to us.
When you use the Student Portal (current students only), we hold:
- the student’s name and email address (used to sign in);
- lesson records created by the tutor — the topic and date of each lesson and any written notes or links;
- lesson notes provided as PDF files;
- a record that a parent or guardian has given consent for the student to use the portal (see section 3).
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools, and we do not buy or collect information about you from anywhere else.
3. Children and parental consent
Many of our students are under 18. We take particular care with children’s information and keep it to the minimum needed to teach effectively.
We only create a Student Portal account for a young person after a parent or guardian has given their consent, which the tutor records. A parent or guardian can ask to see what we hold, or ask us to delete the account and its notes, at any time by emailing LchemyTutoring@outlook.com. Any lesson recordings, if introduced in future, would capture screen-shared work and audio only — not video of the student.
4. How we use your information
We use your details only to:
- read and respond to your enquiry and arrange or discuss tuition;
- provide tuition and give each student private access to their own lesson records and notes; and
- keep the portal and its files secure.
We never use your information for marketing, and we never sell or rent it to anyone.
5. Signing in to the portal
The portal uses a passwordless “magic link” sign-in. When a student wants to sign in, we email a single-use link to their address. We do not ask students to create, and we do not store, a reusable password. The link is stored only as a scrambled (hashed) code that expires after a short time.
6. Our lawful basis
We teach students in many different countries and we protect everyone’s information to the same high standard. Where data protection laws apply to you — such as the UK or EU GDPR, or similar laws in your own country — we rely on your consent (given when you submit the form or, for a student account, when a parent or guardian agrees to it) and on our legitimate interest in responding to genuine enquiries and in providing tuition to enrolled students.
7. Where your information is stored
Your information is kept on Microsoft Azure data centres in the United Kingdom:
- enquiries and portal account details are held securely in our website’s database;
- lesson-note PDF files are held in a private, access-controlled storage area that is not publicly reachable; and
- a copy of enquiry emails is sent to our tutoring inbox (Microsoft Outlook) so we can reply.
Information sent to and from the website is protected with encryption in transit (HTTPS / TLS).
Because we teach students internationally, your information may be accessed from, or processed in, countries other than the one where you live. Wherever it is handled, it stays protected by this policy and by appropriate safeguards.
8. How long we keep it
Enquiries stored in our website database are automatically deleted after 12 months. Student Portal accounts and lesson notes are kept while the student is studying with us and for a reasonable period afterwards, and are then deleted — or sooner if you ask us. Emails in our inbox are kept only for as long as we need them and are then deleted. You can ask us to delete your details sooner at any time (see section 11).
9. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only use trusted service providers who help us run the website and our email — principally Microsoft (Azure hosting and storage, and Outlook email). These providers process data on our behalf under their own data-protection agreements.
10. Cookies
Our website uses only essential and functional cookies that are needed for the site to work, to keep it fast (for example, page caching) and to keep a signed-in student securely logged in. We do not use advertising, analytics or third-party tracking cookies.
11. Your rights
Wherever you live, we will honour the following rights over your personal information. You can ask us to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- have it corrected if it is wrong;
- have it deleted;
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it; and
- ask us to transfer it to you or another provider.
Depending on the country you live in, you may have additional rights under your local law. A parent or guardian can exercise these rights on behalf of a child. To exercise any of these rights, email us at LchemyTutoring@outlook.com and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
12. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please contact us first so we can put it right. Depending on where you live, you may also be able to raise a complaint with the data protection authority in your own country.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed.
